Make Your MARK
We know that our young people’s attitude to learning is one of the most significant factors in their success. At Beacon we use the acronym MARK to summarise our expectations of our students and the culture of learning that we foster. In lessons we talk about motivation and success; we teach our young people how to be articulate, how to develop strong resilience and to take pride in their growing knowledge.
Motivated:
I am highly motivated to learn. I complete all tasks with enthusiasm and care. I independently evaluate my own learning and address gaps in my knowledge. I always respond to feedback. I am organised and planned and regularly take on extra challenges.
Articulate:
I am keen to be involved in classroom talk and always express myself effectively. I listen carefully to others and respond thoughtfully and sensitively. I have an extensive vocabulary and always express myself with the appropriate level of formality.
Resilient:
When I find something difficult, I keep trying. I know that improving my learning is my responsibility. I make full use of the learning resources available to me and, if necessary, ask my teacher for help.
Knowledgeable:
I use a range of powerful strategies to enable me to remember our curriculum in detail. I use prior learning to help me understand new knowledge.
