Enrichment

As a student at Beacon Academy Sixth Form, you will have the opportunity to take part in a broad range of enrichment activities that support you to pursue your interests, gain new skills and valuable experience, develop your intellectual, social and emotional independence and support your mental health.

We are dedicated to raising our students’ aspirations and promoting all the opportunities available to them.

Through our enrichment offer which includes the Extended Project Qualification, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, educational trips, visits from guest speakers and a “life-changing” trip to The Gambia, all students take part in a broad range of activities that support them to pursue their interests, meet different people and gain skills, experience and additional qualifications that help them stand out.

In Year 12, all students choose activities to participate in alongside their academic qualifications to accrue enrichment credits over the course of the year. We also realise that we can make a difference to our local community, with focussed voluntary work. This will give students more experience to add to their applications for higher education or work after Sixth Form.

From September, students can take part in activities such as football, table tennis, debate club, cooking skills, and more. They can also volunteer for community projects like primary school reading support, horticulture, nursing home visits, and mentoring, as well as helping with KS3 literacy and numeracy.

Since this is such a valuable experience, participation in enrichment is compulsory for all Year 12 students, unless they have enrichment commitments outside of school. In Year 13, students can choose to participate in the enrichment programme.
