What to study (16-19 Study Programme)
We understand that the decision about which subjects to study may well be a difficult one . We offer students a high-quality academic experience where they will all study three or more of our exciting Level 3 subjects (A Level or A Level equivalent vocational) on offer at Beacon Sixth Form, as well as providing them with the opportunity for them to develop as individuals through our enrichment and our work experience and preparation for Higher Education programmes.
The academic programme that students follow is tailored to their prior attainment, their interests and their career goals. Students who do not hold a grade 4 GCSE in Mathematics and English are required to continue with these subjects as part of their study programme. Making your choices does mean that you will need to give it careful thought. One of the most important things to remember is that you are putting together a combination of courses for your Year 12, which will help you to achieve your goals and not just a collection of subjects.
For further information about applying to Beacon Academy Sixth Form, including the application to admission process, choosing your programme of study, entry requirements, and what our sixth form has to offer, please see our Applying to Beacon Academy Sixth Form Information booklet.
After you have applied
After your application has been received, you will attend a meeting with a member of the Sixth Form team in Term 3. At this meeting, we will discuss your progression plans and the requirements of the courses you wish to follow. However, changes to your courses can be made with guidance, right up to the start of term in September – this may particularly apply if your GCSE results were not as expected.
