The arrangements for the admission of Year 6 children to Beacon Academy are made by East Sussex County Council.

The deadline for secondary school applications for September 2025 has now passed. Late applications can still be submitted to East Sussex County Council School Admissions via their website. However, all late applications will only be dealt with after all on time applications have been processed.

Beacon Academy’s Published Admission Number (PAN) for the current Year 7 intake for September 2025 is 250. Please see the admission criteria in the Admissions Key Information section, which explains how applications are ranked.

A detailed description of the application process is contained in the booklet, “Applying for a school” published by East Sussex County Council which is available from early September each year. A copy can be viewed in any East Sussex school or library, viewed/downloaded here or requested from the School Admissions Team, Education Department, PO Box 4, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes, BN7 1SG.

East Sussex County Council ask that applications are completed online and provides free internet access at any East Sussex library. For more information on applying online please contact East Sussex School Admissions.

If you live outside East Sussex and are interested in your child attending Beacon Academy, you must apply through the local authority in which you live. For example, if you live in Kent, you have to apply through Kent County Council school admissions.

The national offer day, when you find out which school you have been allocated a place at, is 1 March, or the next working day. For September 2025 admissions, the national offer day will be Monday 3 March 2025.

If you did not get the school place you wanted for your child, you can appeal to an independent appeal panel. The deadline for submitting appeals is Monday 31 March 2025.

Before making an appeal you may wish to consider the other options open to you. These include requesting a change of allocated school, or adding your child to the Beacon Academy waiting list by emailing your child’s full name and date of birth to our Admissions Coordinator on email: admissions@beacon-academy.org. It is also recommended you accept the place allocated to your child as this does not affect your appeal rights. Appeal hearings will take place through May until Wednesday 18 June 2025. For further information please see Appeals Information.

Once a school place has been granted, an Admission Form must be completed via the school's online portal called Admissions+.

East Sussex County Council provides school transport to all families who live more than 3 miles from their nearest qualifying school. If you need help with transport and live in East Sussex, please apply here.

Information about the Local Authority Co-ordinated Admission Scheme can be found here.

For students currently in Years 7 to 11 that require a place during the school year, an in-year application can be made direct to Beacon Academy by completing the online admission enquiry form here. Additionally, you may also apply to East Sussex County Council (ESCC) School’s Admissions at the website here.

Once received, your application will be considered by the Headteacher and their decision is reviewed by the academy’s Local Governing Committee (LGC) admissions committee. You will receive a response in writing letting you know the outcome of the application within 15 school days from the date of submission. All enquiries will be considered in line with the School Admissions Code 2021 and with reference to the academy’s oversubscription criteria.
