Open Events
We look forward to welcoming you to our school open events, both at our main site for Years 7 - 11 and at our specialist Sixth Form Centre.
Whole School Open Day
We were delighted to welcome so many visitors to our interactive whole school Open Day at both our Beeches site and our Sixth Form site on Saturday 5 October 2024. This popular event provides visitors with the chance to explore every aspect of life at Beacon Academy and discover what we can offer your child to ensure they make the best progress possible within our supportive, challenging and stimulating environment.
At our Beeches site, students entering Years 7 - 11 were invited to explore our facilities, try lots of fun activities and meet students, departmental staff, and our Senior Team. Visitors had the opportunity to attend a presentation in Beeches Main Hall led by our Headteacher, Keith Slattery, and other key members of staff involved in supporting children making the transition from primary to secondary school. Prospective students in Years 5 and 6 and their families were encouraged to attend.
At our dedicated Sixth Form Centre on Green Lane, we invited prospective Sixth Form students and their parents or carers to meet and talk with enthusiastic subject leaders and members of the Sixth Form team about the excellent range of courses and opportunities we offer post-16. Visitors were able to explore our facilities, attend talks in the Main Hall and student-led presentations and discover how we can help you to combine your skills and interests into the package that is right for you. Prospective year 10 and 11 students and their parents and carers were welcome to attend this event.
Booking is not required for our Whole School Open Days.
Open Morning Tours for Year 6
Our fully booked Open Morning Tours took place in October. Led by our Student Ambassadors, prospective students in Year 6 and their parents and carers had the opportunity to see Beacon Academy on a normal working day to observe the school in action and meet key members of staff involved in the transition of students from primary to secondary education.
All sessions started with arrival and registration in Beeches Main Hall at 8:45am with tours leaving promptly at 9:00am. After visiting lesson one with your student guides, visitors were invited to stay for refreshments and the chance to talk with members of the Senior Leadership Team, key staff, and current students.

Making our MARK
Our core values permeate through our day-to-day practice and there is a constant drive to sustain our culture that is highly aspirational and ambitious for excellence in all we do. We ensure that teaching and learning inspires and challenges every student, enabling all to make excellent progress. Our high expectations and inclusive culture ensure that students are supported to “make their MARK” by being motivated, articulate learners, developing resilience and taking pride in their growing knowledge.
However, education at Beacon Academy is about much more than academic achievement. We take pride in supporting and encouraging our students to broaden their horizons, develop their interpersonal skills and become independent learners. We focus daily on developing and promoting our students’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing via not only our curriculum, but our outstanding Student Support networks and wide-ranging enrichment programme.
We encourage you to take part in one of our open events and see this for yourselves.
“Beacon is a welcoming school with a tangible community feel. Leaders encourage high quality learning in this ambitious and successful academy. Pupils achieve very high standards. Many go on to top universities, apprenticeships or to prestigious careers.”
