Curriculum Intent
Our psychology department is ambitious for excellence in all that we do, we are never complacent. We aim to develop thoughtful, inquisitive students who understand the cognitive, behavioural and emotional complexities of human behaviour and who value these differences in the real world.
Our sustained and established vision ensures that students acquire essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of psychological theory and research and how they relate to each other. Our broad, balanced and knowledge rich curriculum is sequenced in a way that encourages students to make links across topics and develop their schemas. The key approaches, issues and debates that underpin psychology are introduced early and embedded throughout the course. Alongside this, students will develop a deep appreciation of scientific methods and gain competence and confidence in critically analysing research.
Our teachers are subject experts who are passionate about continually advancing their own knowledge to ensure content and pedagogy reflect the very latest developments. As such, we are well-equipped to facilitate our students’ knowledge of topics currently at the forefront of psychological research. This enables students to further develop their interest in and enthusiasm for psychology by understanding how it can improve the lives of individuals, society, and the economy.
