Religion and Worldviews (Philosophy / Ethics)

Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum will allow students to engage with some of the greatest thinkers in history, from ancient philosophers to 20th century moralists. We will study stories that challenge their preconceived notions of life, identity and the world they inhabit. We will introduce students to the diverse range of religious and non-religious beliefs and worldviews in our modern world.

Our hope is to give students the contextual knowledge to ask deep questions and give them the vocabulary to form their own answers to the most persistent, complex and important questions in life. We want to help our young people develop into thoughtful, well informed adults who are able to navigate a richly diverse world.

The content covered in class will enable our students to better understand and appreciate art, global politics and history as well as helping them to interact smoothly with people from all backgrounds. Our focus on the connections between religions will give students the tools to independently learn about any new religion they encounter and we will explicitly teach the vocabulary they will need to understand any religion or worldview.

RE is provided to all students. Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE. Please see our SMSC Policy for further information.
