Curriculum Intent
At Beacon Academy the Design Technology department intends for our students to understand that we live in a human made world, from the clothes we wear, to the food we eat, to the structures we live and work in and to the technology we use in our everyday lives. We teach our students to be active members of this human made world and teach them about the impact their choices make on our planet and each other, and how to seek out problems and formulate design solutions to help a wide variety of people, in a diverse range of places.
We structure our projects and curriculum over seven years to build on student’s prior knowledge and skills, to ensure our student become responsible, well-informed members of society.
We build an enthusiasm for Design and Technology (in its many forms) in our students, by teaching them the skills to use a wide range of hi-tech and established production methods, materials, and components to produce high-quality outcomes. We aim for the students to use these skills, and their knowledge gained from using them, safely and in an informed way, to design and manufacture challenging and useful products.
All Beacon students strive to make their MARK by being motivated, ambitious, resilient, and knowledgeable.
