Youth Theatre performance Jan 25 8

Congratulations to our Beacon Academy Youth Theatre students on their incredible production of two comedic plays, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde and Model Behaviour by Jon Brittain.

The production was created during extra-curricular Youth Theatre sessions this and last academic year and showcased the skills and talents of our students in Years 8, 10 and 11. The Importance of Being Earnest was written as a comedy play to expose the upper classes and their trivialities. Commissioned as part of the National Theatre’s annual, nationwide youth theatre “Connections” festival in 2023, Model Behaviour is a comedy play written for and about teenagers, addressing themes including education, future, and politics. The two plays where chosen to enable the students to explore two contrasting forms of comedy.

Head of Drama, Mrs Wallace, said:

“Proud is an understatement. The students that took part in this performance have been phenomenal. One cast for two plays performed on the same evening is a big ask of anyone, however the students have composed themselves like professionals and have been the most committed students to work with.

For most, this will be their final production as they focus on their GCSEs. I can safely say it is a performance they will remember as a triumph. Congratulations to all of them and thank you to those who helped make it a reality.”
